Twinkle, twinkle, standard candle
Tell me where you are

Bipolar behemoth, beyond
My measured night

Enveloped by a fever
Of helium, draped
Over flame and flare

Dim, heavy cloak
Which falls for a spell
Between star and eye

Between manic bursts
Of brilliance

When the veil lifts
Billows in a cosmic breeze
Of light, blazing treasure

Of calibration, fixed
Variable for contemplation

Among clusters
Scattered spirals
And elliptical equations

That shape
The known universe

Churning cores of flicker
In the distant distance
Sweeping galactic shores

Beacons for the traveler
Who doesn’t travel… yet
