A person with whom
One could speak

Was the origin of verse.
The written word the cancerous

Institution, blighted
Outside on the skin,

Congested inside
In the heart, the less

Written the better.
History, humanity’s

Spinning free-fall
Into time and space,

Also resurrects. Once
Ubiquitous posters

Of Chairman Mao
Taken down, his giant

Portrait’s austere
Glare lording over

Tiananmen Square curbs
No lover, no tongue.
