Amal’s ambitions for life feed her passion for poetry. She believes that themusic of words is the pulse of mankind.  Poetry Eyes (2008), is her first collection of poems where she explores the art of poetry, romance and wisdom.  Guess Who My Best Friend Is (2005), is her first children’s book; inspired by her husband and their youngest son.

The Hard Way

In my naïve years
I inherited a tree.
Everyone I’d ever known
It's been empty and dry
since it was born!

When my neighbors’ trees
were heavy with fruits,
mine failed
to carry a single leaf.
When the wind stole
the neighbors’ leaves
my tree dropped
sticks and thorns.
Yet somehow,
I sustained belief.
I took pictures
and painted
wornout sketches.

In summer
I sat in its tiny shadow.
In winter
I hid in its narrow trunk.
I ran around it,
sat beside it,
and slept by its roots.
It’s never a source of inspiration;
I never heard it weeping.

Then, one ugly night,
with lightening swords,
the angry sea
fought an outraged sky.
And when dawn
forced peace, my tree
was rent in two parts;
one stood straight
challenging time,
the other downed, defeated,
pointed to the shore.

I mounted the lower one
and sailed
into the unknown.
